AW 16/17 Trend: Velvet Feels

Velvet is one of the biggest trends for this fall season.  I'm not that big of a velvet fan but it could work for a sporty minimalist style.  There has been a few pairs of velvet shoes I've had my eye on so far...

There are three things to remember if you want to add velvet to your minimalist wardrobe.

1.  Keep the color toned down.  The sheen of velvet and its texture is already noticeable.  Balance out the fabric's characteristics by using a dark, muted or neutral color.  If you're feeling a little daring, try a pastel hue for a flirty look.

2. Use it as the statement piece.  Velvet is considered a luxury textile and should be given the respect it deserves.  Pair your velvet piece with a relaxed tee or cut up denim; these items won't compete with the textile but will also give you the sporty vibe we love.

3. Opt out of crushed.  Crushed velvet has a visual texture.  The fabrication has highs, lows and varying shine.  This fabric can look very cheap; paired with some items from our relaxed closet, it can make you look disheveled.
