INSPIRATION: Gabi Gregg

When I was working on my fashion show for the LAFWDC, one of my friends suggested that I start writing about my experience so I could look back on it later and monitor my growth as an individual and designer.  I briefly did it on tumblr but I lost traction as I was more focused on getting things done for the show instead of writing about it.  Understandable.

After the show was over, I wanted to document my next steps in the industry because I thought I was about to make some big moves and get my career underway.  That's when I decided I wanted to start a blog that would also work as a portfolio site.

I began researching how to do a fashion design blog as well as look at various portfolio sites and style blogs.  In my research, I came across Gabi Gregg of GabiFresh and I'm so glad I did.  I think I've been following her for about two years now and she's one of my blog/style mentors...in my mind.  I'm not a stan or anything but I do find her inspiring.

Feature:

Who?

Gabi Gregg is a style blogger on her own site, gabifresh.com.  She shares her style and plus size style advice and beauty tips.

Why do you like this person?

I love Gabi's style.  There's so much I wish I could steal from her.  It's an everyday comfortable vibe but she dresses her look up with key pieces with a subtle edge.  She has a style that's easy to maintain and stay consistent at; her looks are attainable, even from her sponsored posts. She shops at ASOS, Charlotte Rouse, H&M and Zara and eBay.

Besides her style, her confidence within herself and her body is dope.  Being a plus size woman, I'm sure she's heard every condescending remark and plus some since she's in the fashion industry. She's been able to accept her body and become comfortable with it and herself and is inspiring others to do the same.   She openly breaks the fashion rules expected for plus size women and fights for equality for the plus fashion lover.  Like for real.  She and a few other style influencers took on Target - yea the company - when they released a capsule collection that didn't offer plus sizes. After the public boycott, they were able to get Target to start producing a plus size brand, Ava&Viv.

How does she inspire?

Gabi has had the opportunity to travel across the world and to cover a few special events that arrived from her work on her website and social media and her voice.  She's sponsored posts for companies and is potentially making a full time living from her style blog.

Given the opportunity, How would you collaborate with this person?

Given that she's a style blogger, the best fit would be to custom design something specifically for her that embraced her curves and her style.  She would do a promotion or two on her social platforms.

Another collab option would be to collaborate and design a small plus size capsule collection with her.  This would be doper since she's already familiar with designing small collections from her partnership that she has with Suits For All.

Take Away:

No matter if you're a creative or an entrepreneur, you should have sources of inspiration and references to follow and learn from.  With GabiFresh, I've learned the value of staying consistent and evolving your brand for easier use.
